It's REALLY getting boring here in CURACAO...anything going on here this weekend or even next weekend or next month????

How's the job market there? I was thinking I might like to work there a while. Any suggestions on books that pay decently or looking for people. I'm in C.R., but am from the states, got roughly 4 years experience in the industry.

 

I'm not the one to talk to regarding employment here in Curacao.

I do know alot of the books have moved to C.R. because of the high wages they had to pay locals....I have heard some of the books are maybe coming back though...probably after football season so there may be more openings then.

My software company is expanding but I'm looking for Crack programers which are hard to come by these days. Most of my emp[loyees are out of Europe.

I have heard that Royal is looking for a few good people...but you have to be experienced and very sharp. try giving them a call. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Pinnacle is always looking for good people but like Royal you better be dam good and sharp otherwise they are not interested.

I got a 3 year work permit pretty easy. But then I own my own company and brought jobs here, as well as purchased realestate here.

Contact "Dos Mundos" in the World Trade Center and they will assist you with you permit.

I don't know you so I can't really recommend you to anyone. But try contacting them via phone and ask if they are interviewing/hiring...ask to speak to the Human Resource dept and give them your qualifications etc.

What do you do at the books you are at now? Ticket Writer Clerk? Linesman? manager?

You asked what I do.... Well my experience ranges from....

Ticket writing (small post up players), ticket writing (wise guys), customer service (I believe what is refered to as customer service here, is know more as accounting over there, withdrawals and payouts, general info, etc.), new accounts (post up shop), internet tech support supervisor, night manager (customer service and bookmaking / very large post up shop), I also have some limited experience moving lines.

With the CS experience you just listed, I would suggest you contact Royal's customer Service Dept.
As they have a great CS dept you might fit into if you are good.

1) $500 a month on home electric bill...That seems about right.
2) I love to pay $100 a week in gas for my car.
3) The breathtaking aroma of crude oil is habit forming..."I love the smell of napalm in the morning".
4) It's ...Africa hot here...I love it! A drive to work= One armed sunburn.
5) So is Dutch!!!
6) Papiamento is beutifull.
7) They import the hookers, so we don't have to sleep with the local silver backs.
8) Pictures of Andruw Jones are EVERYWHERE!!!!
9) Even though it's clearly the Bronx.....We claim to have the best little league team in the Carribean (We're actually in the Dutch Antilles).
10) Mambo Beach, and The Living Room rule!!! And there's like two ,or three other places too!!!

And you ONLY smell the refinery choke & smoke if you live downwind...like on the Blubea golf course over the bridge, and over by the Marriot in Piscadero. If you live over in that area..move out man. The cancer rate for locals is 10 times higher there than anywhere on Curacao.

Lived in Piscadero resort when I first got here, the view was nice but the smell made me sick. Got out of there fast and moved over the bridge to Spanish Waters where the air is fresh and I can't see the refinery. Don't know any Dutch that lives on the smokey side.

Mambo beach and the Living (Dead) Room were fun when I first got here but I can't stand to go there anymore. How many times can you see a rerun of the same BAD movie?

Curacao is the armpit of the world. I sincerely regret that you are there, you seem like a nice guy. The bulk of the posters here on the RX are from Costa Rica or The States. You have to follow the buffalo, so to speak, so if that's where your job is, make the best of it. Costa Rica BLOWS CURACAO out of the water though, not even close.

i had a great job, loved the work but hated the island so much i had to leave. las vegas to curacao is as much culture shock as you could ever imagine. luckily i'm able to do my thing back home. shug@winwithabikinigirl.com if you're looking for a way out of that hell hole.

 

Curacao is also a major shipping port to South America, Europe and the states. And for my other businesses it's the place to be.

I'm sure Costa Rica has alot more to offer in terms of people attitudes and culture but for now Curacao is OK for I can hop in a plane and be anywhere.

There are a lot of bad places, and people with bad attitude here..so I just avoid those people and places and it's like I'm on a vacation /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

There are more beatiful women in Punda then there are in all of CR, much less San Jose. No rainy season in Curacao. And the beach is just five minutes away. There is much more here than the Living Room and Mambo. Just have to look around.
As for tcuracao being the armpit of the earth, I can see you have never walked into the El Cortez.
Now that, my friend, is the an armpit. Or perhaps you were refering to the smell eminating from the Dutch, to whom bathing everyday appears to be an option.

Anyways, I love it here and will never go back to Vegas. Especially if you get in to the real local scene and mix with the people here in Curacao.

And i've been many places in this world, and let me tell you, colombianas are by far the most beaytiful i have yet to see.
